How to view animated .gif images in linux?

Generally we come across these animated images in cell phone wallpapers.To view these wall papers in windows we use 'Windows Picture And Fax Viewer.' There we can observe motion.

But in Linux if you open with 'Image Viewer' no motion is observed in the animation.The easiest way to observe this motion is just right click on the image and open with any web browser like mozilla firefox etc...

Otherwise
one can use 'gthumb' (Gnome Thumb Image Viewer).

One can also play the animation in .gif images from command line if 'imagemagick' is installed.

How to install 'imagemagick' ?

in debian from command line:

:~$su

#apt-get install imagemagick

#exit

:~$exit

in ubuntu from command line:

:~$sudo apt-get update

:~$sudo apt-get install imagemagick

:~$exit

Otherwise download ImageMagick.tar.gz from ftp.imagemagick.org or its mirrors and unpack it with the command

for debian users:

:~$tar -xzvf ImageMagick.tar.gz

:~$cd ImageMagick


:~$su

#./configure

#make

#make check

#make install

#exit

:~$exit


for ubuntu users :

:~$tar -xzvf ImageMagick.tar.gz

:~$cd ImageMagick

:~$sudo ./configure

:~$sudo make

:~$sudo make check

:~$sudo make install

:~$exit

after the installation of imagemagick go to command line and do the following

:~$animate image.gif

Using this command (animate) one can view .gif images from command line.
