To play .rm and all types of video files in debian and to listen music from raaga.com

To play .rm (Real Media) Files in debian you need to install 'w32codecs'. You can get these codecs by adding the following repository to '/etc/apt/sources.list' file.


For etch (stable) alpha, amd64, hppa, i386, ia64, powerpc and sparc
packages add
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org etch main
or
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main



For lenny (testing) alpha, amd64, hppa, i386, ia64, powerpc and sparc
packages add
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org lenny main
or
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main




For sid (unstable) alpha, amd64, hppa, i386, ia64, powerpc and sparc
packages add
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid main


Depending on your system configuration add any one of the above lines to /etc/apt/sources.list' file. to edit this go to command line and type


:~$su

(Enter password here.)

#gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

A text editor containing the file 'sources.list' will be opened.Now copy any one of above lines and save it and close it.

Now open the terminal and type the following.

:~$su

Enter password here.(Now the prompt changes from '$' to '#' .Now type the following command (or) copy and paste.)

#wget -c http://www.debian-multimedia.org/pool/main/d/debian-multimedia-keyring/debian-multimedia-keyring_2007.02.14_all.deb

#dpkg -i debian-multimedia-keyring_2007.02.14_all.deb

(If you see 'OK' at the end then do the following)

#rm debian-multimedia-keyring_2007.02.14_all.deb

#apt-get update

(If you see '.....done' at the end then do the following)

#apt-get install w32codecs libdvdcss2

#apt-get install realplayer

#exit

:~$exit



If you install all these things you can watch almost all video formats in your 'totem' player like...

.avi (Audio Video Interlative), .wmv (Windows Media Video), .mpg .mp4 .rm (Real media), .vob (Videos from DVD), .mov (Quick Play format), .flv (Flash Video), .divx .dv .mkv .swf etc.....

And almost all the audio formats like

mp3, wav, oog, aac, flac, mpc, au, aiff, qcp etc.....


Also you can hear songs from http://www.raaga.com (Raaga) famous online music site.
